Woodland extension in East Sussex

The original brief removed the conservatory and reconfigured the ground floor and basement. During our design discussions, it soon became evident our clients had a strong eco friendly philosophy towards the house, and management of the ancient woodland.

The conservatory will be replaced by an extension with large format sliding doors promising excellent garden views and maximising light deep into the living room, study and guest bedroom.

Designed to Passivhaus retrofit standards resulting in minimal energy costs for heating and cooling throughout the year and low carbon. The shape of the decking was changed to create a partially covered terrace below.

The new extension will be clad in lightly scorched timber with a stone plinth, a zinc roof, and hidden gutters. The stone is also used to wrap around the basement, the contrast between old and new is firmly established.
