1920s Colt House Renovation with Single‑Storey Garden Extension Near Ashdown Forest

This charming detached 1920s Colt home, located within a private residential estate near the breath taking Ashdown Forest, was transformed through a sensitive and contemporary redesign.

The owners wanted to enhance the property’s connection to the landscape while creating a more functional layout for modern family living.

A new single‑storey rear extension was introduced to open up the home and provide seamless access to the garden. Large areas of glazing were carefully positioned to frame the stunning views, maximise natural light and create a bright, welcoming space for everyday living.

Inside, the floor plan was thoughtfully reconfigured to better support family life—both for young children now and as their needs evolve over time. The improved layout enhances flow, usability and comfort throughout the home.

Practicality played a key role in the design. The new boot room features full‑length built‑in cupboards, offering generous storage and helping keep the home organised. A complete redecoration throughout brought cohesion to the interiors, resulting in a warm, functional and beautifully updated home.

This project demonstrates how careful architectural design can revitalise a period property, improving its performance, flexibility and connection to the surrounding landscape.
