Sussex Bungalow Transformation with Modern Glazed Extension and Charred Timber Cladding
This Sussex project involved the complete transformation of a traditional single‑storey brick bungalow, both inside and out. The new owners wanted to dramatically modernise the property’s appearance and create a home that made the most of its stunning setting. We developed a bold architectural design that reimagined the building while respecting its original footprint.

A key element of the redesign was a fully glazed rear extension, introduced to maximise natural light and create a strong visual and physical connection with the garden. This contemporary addition accommodates a spacious open‑plan kitchen, dining and living area, featuring full‑width glazing that frames the beautiful views and delivers the “wow factor” the clients were seeking.

Internally, the layout was reconfigured to create a luxurious master bedroom suite. Internal walls and window openings were redesigned to improve flow and enhance privacy. The master suite includes a freestanding bath and new large sliding doors opening onto a private terrace, offering a calm, spa‑like retreat.

The external elevations were completely upgraded with a new entrance hall and canopy, giving the property a more welcoming and contemporary presence. The entire building is clad in charred timber boarding, providing a striking modern aesthetic and a durable, low‑maintenance finish.

This project showcases how thoughtful architectural design can transform a dated bungalow into a modern, light‑filled home with a strong connection to its landscape.
