Barn Conversion and Extension with Planning Permission to Relocate the Structure

This barn conversion project began with a rare opportunity: a non‑listed barn with enough original structure intact to be converted and extended into a five‑bedroom home. A standout achievement of the scheme was securing planning permission to relocate the barn 10 metres further from the road, significantly improving privacy and site layout.

The architectural design introduces a pair of extensions forming a traditional U‑shaped layout, creating a sheltered courtyard at the front of the property. These new wings accommodate the bedrooms and bathrooms, while the central barn houses the main living and dining spaces, celebrating the original structure.

Large windows and glazed doors were incorporated throughout to maximise natural light, frame the surrounding countryside, and provide enhanced privacy from the road. The result is a beautifully considered modern barn conversion that blends rural character with contemporary living.
