EAST SUSSEX NEW BUILD HOUSE

The owners of an existing house wanted to extend and completely refurbish the existing building, changing the appearance and modernising its appearance both internally and externally.

The clients were interested in improving the energy efficiency and achieving natural ventilation by carefully placing opening windows and roof lights. Brise soleil additions were made to elevations that were south facing to reduce solar gain in summer months.

They wanted the house to incorporate biophilic design qualities to increase their connection with the natural environment and maximise the benefits of a healthy atmosphere. A green wall was designed in the staircase area to bring natural vegetation into the centre of the house.

The internal spaces were designed to accommodate their children and desire to have plenty of entertainment spaces both inside and out. The relationship to the pool and surrounding landscape was enhanced by the balcony and terraces.
