Whole‑House Refurbishment and Extension with Biophilic Design and Energy‑Efficient Upgrades

This project involved the full refurbishment and extension of an existing family home, transforming both the internal layout and external appearance to create a modern, energy‑efficient and nature‑connected living environment. The clients wanted to completely update the property, enhancing its functionality while giving it a fresh contemporary character.

A key priority was improving energy efficiency and natural ventilation. Carefully positioned opening windows and rooflights were incorporated to optimise airflow throughout the home. Brise‑soleil shading was added to the south‑facing elevations to reduce solar gain during the summer months, helping maintain comfortable indoor temperatures and lowering energy demand.

The clients were also passionate about biophilic design, seeking to strengthen their connection with the natural environment. A striking green wall was introduced within the staircase void, bringing living vegetation into the heart of the home and promoting a healthier indoor atmosphere.

Internally, the layout was redesigned to support family life, with flexible spaces for children and generous entertainment areas both indoors and outdoors. The relationship between the house, the swimming pool and the surrounding landscape was enhanced through new balconies and terraces, creating a seamless flow between the interior and garden.

This thoughtful transformation has resulted in a contemporary, sustainable and family‑focused home that celebrates natural light, fresh air and a strong connection to the outdoors.
